The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to take the help and support of private agencies for the running of the city’s sports complexes. The civic body has announced the Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for companies to manage both indoor and outdoor facilities for the next two years. The idea is to make the complexes cleaner, safer, and easier for everyone to use.
A GHMC official said, “We want people to enjoy our sports facilities without worrying about broken equipment or poor maintenance. Private agencies can help make this happen.”
The sports complexes include multiple sports with specialised stadiums for cricket, football, badminton, athletics, and other activities. These places have, however, faced multiple issues over the years, like damaged equipment, untidy spaces, and irregular upkeep. GHMC hopes private management will fix these issues and make the facilities more welcoming for everyone.
Private agencies will handle daily operations, cleaning, maintenance, and safety. They may also run new activities, organise sports events, and encourage more people to get involved. Officials clarified that this is not privatisation – the complexes will stay public, but they will be run in a more professional way.
Local residents and sports lovers have welcomed the move. Ravi Kumar, a regular visitor at one indoor stadium, said, “It’s good that GHMC is taking this step. A well-managed complex will make training and playing much easier for everyone.”
Sports coach Anjali Reddy added, “Better equipment and proper maintenance will help young athletes a lot. Professional management can really improve the experience for everyone using these facilities.”
The EOIs are already out, and GHMC expects to finalise the partnerships in the coming months. With private agencies taking care of day-to-day work, Hyderabad’s sports complexes are likely to be cleaner, better organised, and more enjoyable. Residents hope this change will make sports more accessible and fun for all.
