A new feature, known as the purchase tab, has been rolled out on both the mobile platform and the web. It is mainly designed to keep down the chaos about order confirmation, shipping estimates, and updates on delivery into a single space. This feature will make sure that everything is accessible in one space. Packages that are scheduled to arrive within 24 hours will continue to appear at the top of the inbox and in summary cards in emails that are related to purchases.
It has been believed by Google that this feature will be proven to be useful during the upcoming holiday season. A survey which has been conducted by the PwC shows that at least 40% of the US holiday gift spending will take place between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday. The new tab aims to reduce the stress of tracking deliveries differently with such a rush in orders. From today onwards, the rollout begins to happen in personal accounts in both web and mobile platforms worldwide.
Another change is also made to Gmail’s promotional tab, which will include a ‘most relevant’ sorting option very soon. Users can now prioritize updates from brands on top which they use often rather than getting a promotional message sorted by date. All the limited-time offers through nudges will ensure that important deals are not getting lost in clutter as Gmail will keep on highlighting them.
These improvements are part of Google’s continuous effort to make managing inbox easier. In 2022, a feature was added by Google that helped to track the delivery directly in the mail without going to the company’s website. Earlier this year, a new subscription management tool was established which helps to organize the emails together allowing users to unsubscribe quickly. Google’s strategy of giving users more control and turning Gmail into a personalised space was reflected by these updates.
It has been noted by the industry analyst that still date mail remains the backbone of digital communication and features like this will help people manage the clutter easily. Gmail’s move to consolidate and prioritize information could have been at the edge over rival companies like Outlook and Yahoo Mail, with the inbox getting flooded by promotional campaigns, shopping confirmation
Gmail has been positioned as more than an email service , and is becoming a central hub for managing digital life with Google making these changes. Gmail has been increasingly designed to reduce the friction of daily tasks, starting from tracking of deliveries to keeping up with deals and subscriptions.
