Indranil Bhattacharya has been an ex officio member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) by the RBI (Board of Directors) on Friday, 22 August.  The decision came in light of the October policy meeting, which will be held this year.

The decision was made at the 618th meeting of the Central Board of Directors, held in Lucknow, by Sanjay Malhotra, the RBI Governor. Rajiv Ranjan, who previously was the MPC, is now leading the Department of Economic Policy and Research.

Official Statement released by the RBI stated, “The Board approved the nomination of Shri Indranil Bhattacharyya, Executive Director, as an ex officio member of the Monetary Policy Committee.”

RBI further released a statement highlighting the review discussion of the board on the global and domestic economic environment, geopolitical developments and financial market challenges. The central office departments, the board committee, and the Ombudsman Scheme.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Governors M. Rajeshwar Rao, T. Rabi Sankar, Swaminathan J. and Poonam Gupta. Nagaraju Maddirala, Secretary, Department of Financial Services, and Anuradha Thakur, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, were present in the meeting too.

Indranil Bhattacharya has over twenty-eight years of experience in the Central Banking Industry. In 1995, Indranil Bhattacharya was a research officer at the Indian Institute of Capital Markets.

In 1996, Indranil Bhattacharya joined the RBI as a Manager. In 2004, Indranil Bhattacharya’s career progressed as he became the Assistant General Manager.

Indranil Bhattacharya’s career flourished further as he joined the Qatar Central Bank as an Economic Expert. His five years of expertise in Qatar helped the functioning of the RBI as per his designated role when he rejoined.

LinkedIn data further highlighted his educational background. In the year 1993, he pursued his Economics Degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University. Indranil Bhattacharya further completed a certification from Northwestern University in Advanced Central Banking and DSGE Modelling in Central Banks from the Kellogg School of Management.
