In the suicide of Sona Eldhose, a Teachers Training Course student, a suicide note containing serious allegations against her friend Ramees Muhammad and his family has been found. The 23-year-old Sona from the town of Kothamangalam in the district of Ernakulam, Kerala, accused her friend Ramees, a temporary employee at Nedumbassery Airport, of locking her up and abusing her. She alleges in her suicide note that Ramees and his family forced her to convert to Islam and that even after she said she was ready to convert, they continued to abuse her.
Sona Eldhose was found hanging in her residence at Njanhoolmala Nagar, Karukadam, Kothamangalam, on Saturday afternoon. On Monday, Sona’s suicide note was found by the police from her home in Kothamangalam.
Ramees and his family insisted her to convert to Islam if she wanted to get married to him. Ramees took her to his house, saying that he would marry her. Sona stated in her suicide note that “ I cannot live being cheated like this”.
“I forgave Ramees for being caught for immoral trafficking. He forgot everything and forced me to convert. When I said that I would not convert, he called me and took me to his house. He said that I could get married if I converted. Even though I said that I was ready to convert, Ramees and his family continued to be cruel to me. He did not feel any guilt for his wrong doings or his love for me. Ramees agreed to die with me,” Sona wrote in her suicide note.
Sona’s brother Basil stated to the media, “Sona agreed to convert when Ramees’s family came to their home with the alliance. However, after that, Ramees was caught in a lodge for indecency. Though his family tried to hide it, Sona got to know about the incident and decided that she would not convert. After that he took her to his home saying that he would marry her, he and his family locked her up in a room at their home in Aluva and abused her.” The police are still questioning Ramees in connection with Sona’s death.
