Ruben Amorim’s men cruise past a sorry Wolverhampton Wanderers side in style, netting in 4 against conceding 1 at the Molineux Stadium on Monday to climb up the table to sit at 6th. Manchester United came into the game looking to save face after a disappointing 1-1 draw in London against West Ham last week. Wolves, on the other hand, were still looking for their first win this season.

With heavy expectations borne by the Red Devils to make a mark this season, the game’s momentum was in their favor after captain Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring in the 25th minute. An underwhelming pass from former Wolves striker Matheus Cunha to Fernandes was made sure to be slotted in despite the Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone spreading himself to get something on the ball.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde equalized for Wolves in the 2nd minute of first-half stoppage time, scoring the team’s first league goal in nine games, since October 26 against Burnley. This seemed to give some hope to the home side for a redeeming comeback.

But the Red Devils came into the second half with a point to prove. In the 51st minute, Bryan Mbeumo, their top scorer this season so far, doubled the lead by passing the ball into an open net after Diogo Dalot squared it up for him across the keeper, who had no chance of getting to it.

Eleven minutes after Mbuemo’s goal, Mason Mount smartly finishes off a beautiful pass from Fernandes with a volley to extend the lead to 3-1 before their captain, Fernandes himself, wraps the game up in the 82nd minute, decisively smashing the ball into the net from the penalty spot.

With this dominant display, Manchester United looks to keep the confidence high going into next week’s home game against Bournemouth, who are eager to bounce back after a disappointing last 5 games. Wolves, currently at the bottom of the table, travel to London to face the league leaders and favourites, Arsenal, at the Emirates. With relegation seeming imminent this season, Rob Edwards’ men prepare for a back-to-back string of tough fixtures.
