Two students from the Banaras Hindu University were arrested on the 4th of February, allegedly sexually assaulting a doctor and robbing him of his belongings. Still, the accused did not just stop there. They recorded the happenings and threatened to socially vilify him. In the process, they extorted money from the Doctor.

The Doctor was a 32-year-old male. The reports say he was lured into the hostel room by final-year students, where they assaulted him and recorded the entire incident, according to the police.

The police authorities have invoked the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Antisocial Activities (Preventions) Act against the students arrested.

As per the police reports, the incident first took place last month on the 11th of January.  However,  the doctor filed the FIR on the 4th of February when the accused started demanding more money. On the day of the incident, the doctor, an employee of a private hospital was called by one of the students claiming that his roommate’s health was deteriorating. When he reached the university he was directed to the hostel room. There were four people already present there. The Doctor has reported sexual assault and being robbed of his jewelry and money.

The Varanasi Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ram Sewak Gautam, has said in an interview that the accused have confessed to their wrongdoings, and the police will dive into and investigate the case.

A police officer also said that the Doctor was called through an app used mostly by the gay community, he further added that during interrogation the accused confessed to doing this with four other doctors and a businessman. No other victims have come forward as of yet.

The arrested students have been booked under sections  377 (unnatural offenses), 347 (wrongful confinement to extort property or constrain to an illegal act), 384 (extortion), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, said the police officials.
