Biju Janta Dal MP Pinaki Misra, participating in the Lok Sabha debate on the No-Confidence motion passed against the central government, said it is out of the question for them to support any motion brought by Congress.

He also added that it defies logic and political sense to bring a motion of no confidence that is bound to fail. “They are very adept at cutting their noses to spite their faces,”, said Pinaki Misra. He also went on to say that every time the Prime Minister gets up on the floor to speak, he throws the Congress party through the shredder.

He also said that they oppose this not only because Congress has proposed it but also for other compelling reasons. He said that the conflagration happening in Manipur is not the result of the last 10 years; it is the result of nearly 50–60 years of strife in Manipur. “The fact of the matter is that the entire issue boiled earlier in the 1980s too.”, he added. He also mentioned that the Home Minister had called an all-party meeting to talk about the Manipur violence, giving an exceptionally detailed analysis of the situation there.

He said that the trick that the central government missed was that they asked the High Court to look into the matter instead of the Supreme Court. Taking the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi case as a prime example, he mentioned that even in that case, both parties had agreed to let the decision stay with the Supreme Court.

He also urged all the parties to speak up in one voice on the Manipur issue.
