Assam Rifles, along with Governor’s Secretariat Nagaland, celebrated the 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas at Raj Bhawan in Kohima on 26 July 23 to mark the anniversary of the 1999 Kargil war, which began in Dras. The event was organized by Hq IG AR (N). 

Fifty-seven war veterans of the 1st Naga and 2nd Naga Regiments, including parents of Late Captain N Kenguruse, MVC, graced the event. The war veterans were facilitated by the Governor. An official of Assam Rifles said, “Kargil Vijay Diwas is a testament to the unbreakable spirit of our nation. It showcased how the entire country came together, transcending barriers of caste, creed, and region, to support our soldiers and their families. This unity and camaraderie are the essence of India’s strength.” 

Remembering the valor and courage of our brave soldiers, cadets of the National Cadet Corps and students from various schools and colleges also participated in the program. The movie, “Kargil Vijay Diwas film- 20 Years of Kargil Victory,” was run to inspire the youth to continue the legacy of the brave soldiers in serving their motherland. 

A senior official of the Assam Rifles said, “The intention behind such programs is not just to commemorate the sacrifice but also to inspire young generations from the past examples of national service and sacrifice.” 

This occasion marks the triumph of the Indian Armed Forces over Pakistani troops in Kargil on 26 July 1999. The Governor of Nagaland, Shri La Ganesan Iyer, paid tribute to the Brave Hearts of the Indian Armed Forces and paid homage to their supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor recalled the sacrifices of the Kargil War heroes and called upon the people to stand with the soldiers who guard the borders.
