On Wednesday in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the recently constructed International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC), also known as “Bharat Mandapam.”

In his speech to the crowd at Delhi’s Pragati Maidan complex, Prime Minister Modi praised the changes that the BJP government has brought about in the nation and predicted that during the party’s third term, India’s growth will accelerate even further. He added that when the newly constructed International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC), known as “Bharat Mandapam,” hosts the G20 Summit this year in September, the world will see India’s ascent to prominence. After opening the new convention center this evening, Modi gave a speech before dedicating it to the country. Modi also unveiled a commemorative coin and stamp at the event to celebrate India’s G20 chairmanship.

The PM conducted a havan at the location earlier in the day, joined by members of his Cabinet and some of the project’s construction employees. The arrangements for the event included more than 15,000 police officers, SWAT squads, and more than 200 police vehicles outfitted with cutting-edge equipment and weapons.

The IECC is the largest conference and exhibition facility in India and is an integral part of the 123-acre Pragati Maidan complex. Its multipurpose and plenary rooms can host 7,000 people in total, which is more than the famed Sydney Opera House’s capacity of 5,900. The IECC, which was built for about Rs. 2,700 crore, contains a 3,000-seat amphitheater and parking for 5,500 vehicles.
